Potential of cancer-testis antigens as targets for cancer immunotherapy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cancer-testis antigens are tumour antigens with limited expression in male germ cells in the testis, ovary and trophoblasts. Recently, their expression has been seen in different types of tumours. Due to the existence of the blood-testis barrier, testis is considered an immune-privileged site; and testis-specific genes, if expressed in cancers, can be immunogenic. For this reason, cancertestis antigens are promising candidates for cancer immunotherapy and have become a major focus for the development of vaccinebased clinical trials in recent years. These antigens may be used as biomarkers for early detection of cancers. Expression of these genes in cancer reflects gene reprogramming and may have a role in neoplastic features such as metastasis and immune evasion.

Cancer/testis antigens (CTAs) are a kind of antigens that their expression mostly is restricted in testis and female’s genital organs. Tumor cells often express antigens whose expression is normally limited to germ cells. CTAs are composed of a vast gene family of closely related members and are commonly classified into two groups: the CT-X antigens that are encoded by the X chromosome and the ...

Recent developments have set the stage for immunotherapy as a supplement to conventional cancer treatment. Consequently, a significant effort is required to further improve efficacy and specificity, particularly the identification of optimal therapeutic targets for clinical testing. Cancer/testis antigens are immunogenic, highly cancer-specific, and frequently expressed in various types of canc...

Introduction: Glioblastoma primary brain tumor.Immunotherapy is a promising therapeutic adjuvant in fighting against this cancer. Cancer/testis antigens (CTAs) are a group of tumor-associated antigens that are typically restricted to adult testis, but they are aberrantly expressed in several types of cancers, especially in advanced cancers with stem-like characteristics. These tumor-associate...

Cancer-testis antigens are tumor antigens that their expression is almost limited to male germ cells in the testis. Some of cancer-testis antigens are also expressed in the ovary and in trophoblasts. Because spermatogenesis begins at puber...

Cancer testis antigens (CTAs), a large family of tumor-associated and immunogenic antigens expressed in human tumors of various histological origins, are highly restricted to the testis and trophoblast. CTAs have been identified as potent targets for tumor-specific immunotherapeutic advances and have immensely lead to the development of different clinical trials of CTA-based vaccine therapy bec...
متن کاملDendritic Cells and Their Role in Cancer Immunotherapy
Dendritic cells (DCs) are antigen presenting cells with unique capability to take up and process antigens in the peripheral blood and tissues. They subsequently migrate to draining lymph nodes where they present these antigens and stimulate naive T lympho-cytes. During their life cycle, DCs go through two maturation stages and are referred to as immature and mature cells, respectively. While im...
